I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2005 NEON…I KNOW, THIS WAS THE FIRST MISTAKE BUT I DIDNT HAVE MUCH CASH…



TWO WEEKS LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON…AFTER NOTIFYING THE BUYER AND HAVING HIM GIVE IT A GOOD LOOK OVER, HE SAID IT WAS A TINY LEAK.’‘SOMEWHERE’’…BUT HERE IS WHAT ELSE HAPPENED COINCIDENTALLY…THE TRUNK FILLED UP WITH WATER AND I COULDNT FIND THE SOURCE OF IT COMING IN…WHEN THE RAIN STOPPED THE LIGHT WENT OFF…AM I CRAZY? CAN THERE BE SOME CONNECTION OR IS IT JUST CONINCIDENCE…THIS IS THE THIRD VEHICLE IVE OWNED WITH ENGINE LIGHT ISSUES SO IM BEGINNING TO THINK IM JINXED OR ITS MY MAGNETIC FORCE…OR SOME THING…ANY THOUGHTS …CAN IT BE CONNECTED?

First, please turn off the caps lock. It’s not polite to shout.

If the light is on there is a trouble code (or perhaps more than one) stored in the computer. A mechanic with a diagnostic machine can interpret the codes and should be able to help with whatever problem exists.

Did you buy this car privately or from a dealer? Is there any sort of warranty?

That CEL (check engine light) is just a kid in class waving her hand trying to get you attention because she has the answer. You need to have the codes read. Some places will read them for FREE. Try Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts. Get the exact code (like P0123) not just their translation into English and post it back here. 

 Look at the tail lights and under the trunk carpet to try and locate the leak.  That leak is not causing the CEL (Check Engine Light).

I was going to say that if you didn’t, a classic about the kid in class that brings a smile to my face for some reason. It sure sounds connected, so in case they are eliminate the leak and eliminate the problem. Sure you have to look at the sunfoof and sure you have to look at the trunk and door and tail light seals etc. etc. I think they are connected if you think they are connected, stranger things have happened. Keep the water out of the trunk step 1.
