Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS. Anybody got any ideas as to why and what I need to do to fix it?

More details would be immensely helpful. How long have you had this car? Did the lighter ever work? What else is not working?
Yes, check the fuse, assuming it’s not switched with the ignition. In my Honda the outlet only works with the key on.
I had an accessory socket that didn’t work in a Ford Windstar from the time it was new. I didn’t notice the problem until it was off warranty. The fuses were all fine. I removed the ash tray and discovered that the accessory socket had never been connected. I pushed the wire on and solved the problem.
