I remember cars with a ‘whip’ antenna, going from the rear bumper to a hook over the driver’s door.
Chester Gould–the creator of Dick Tracy–was a visionary.
After he created the Wrist Radio for the comic strip in–I think–the late '40s, he updated that bit of technology in the '60s and called it Wrist TV… or something to that effect.
Gould also envisioned portable, battery-powered surveillance cameras–in the '40s:
In the '50s, he envisioned remote police lineups, between cities:
He also envisioned the Space Coupe, a vehicle that was propelled by harnessing the magnetic attraction of whatever heavenly body you wanted to visit.
It seemed fantastic then (the '60s? the '70s?), but… Who knows?
Also, his Magnetic Air Car…
Chester Gould was a true visionary.
Get Smart and the shoe phone. must have been a cell phone, LOL
That was the first thing I commented on when I got my Apple Watch…It was like Dick Tracy.
Those were usually ham radio antennas for either the 2 or 6 meter mobile bands.
Of course, many law enforcement vehicles had whip antennas.
