Why? I don’t care for four door sedans.
You have received several answers of why the Mazda would be the better choice, assuming all other factors are equal. Repeating the same question will not change the answer.

If you want to know which one would be more fun, you have to test drive and decide, it is very subjective.
As far as reliability, it would depend on miles driven and how each car was maintained.
Also, as mentioned, advice on the net and from car reviewers is one thing, driving it yourself is something else.
We wanted a small crossover for my kid. Narrowed it down to a few. Based on the internet, the Mazda CX-3 was supposed to be much better. It didn’t feel all that good on our test drive and the inside was claustrophobic. Might had been the particular one we were looking at (used). Eventually settled on the Nissan Rogue Sport which based on the reviews is not all that great (also ruled out the Honda HRV and Toyota CH-R based on our test drive).
