I have a 2008 Mazda 3 and from the day I bought it, the brakes have made a screeching noise when I put the car in reverse on a snowing, rainy or otherwise wet day. The noise doesn’t happen in a forward gear.
At 30,000 miles - it’s still doing it. I’ve asked the dealership to look at it and they have said each time that the brakes are fine and “Mazda’s just do that”.
Anyone else have this issue? What’s the cause if the brakes are new?
I’ve had a similar thing happen on my 01 Taurus before. When I took it to my mechanic he just said it was brake dust causing it. He cleaned them up and 30 minutes and $20 later the problem was solved. That was 3 months ago. No noise since!
My Fusion does the same thing occasionally. I believe it’s just a thin coat of rust that forms on the discs in moist weather. Don’t think it is an issue.
Thanks DfromSD and rockstar07. I’ve got an appointment at the shop today and I’ll ask them about it, yet again.
