Lower Ball Joint

I have a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria. About a month ago, the lower ball joint on the driver side front wheel broke. Now that the weather has gotten a little better (I live in Ohio so it changes every 5 minutes) I have a chance to replace it. I have a ball joint press tool, but I have never used one before and I’m not sure if I need to put the two broken pieces together to press the old one out. The ball joint tool is my brother in laws and he doesn’t have the directions for it anymore. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You don’t need to put the broken ball joint back together to press it out. Does the ball press include the press plates and reciever tubes?

If so, select the proper plate and tube that ball joint will go into when pressed out. Then select the proper plate/tube to press on the ball joint. Turn the press screw.
