I grew up in NY and remember going to the DMV and waiting over half a day to renew my registration or drivers license. Moved to NH and I was amazed how simple it was. I’ve never waited more than 15 minutes for either.
Ever since so many of the DMV/MVC’s functions moved to the agency’s website, the need to visit a DMV/MVC office has been greatly decreased. Next week, I will make an appt to obtain my Real I.D. driver’s license, and that will be the first time that I’ve needed to go to one of those offices for at least 8 years.
I haven’t been in a DMV since March 2017, I renew online…
But someone I know just had to go their a couple times and it was packed, she had appointments both times but still took a couple hours… It is always busy, only one in the county…
We have private contractors. Not much of a wait. Always friendly and helpful..
I’m on my third Real ID driver’s license. One year after I got the first one the President said it wasn’t real after all and I had to go though the process again with even more verification. Then the license timed out and I had to renew. At least the last time I didn’t have to crawl ten miles over crushed glass to verify myself again.
Had to make an appointment for a couple hours later but I got there checked in early and done in 30min max. On a Friday afternoon
Real ID wasn’t a problem and my license renewed with no further documents. Pre flight was a bigger hassle and not sure when that has to b3 done agsin. Can’t seem to find it on my phone right now. I’m not going anywhere anyway. Must be with my passport. Wonder when that expires? Boy the years slip by.
I recently bought a car, had to transfer ownership. Made an appointment at the license agency, of course by 4:00PM they were running behind but still, got called to the window at 4:25. Far better than the olden days of “take a number and wait your turn.”
I sold a car and all I need to do is go online and fill out a seller’s report. Quick and simple.
My daughter recently completed her driving test. She looked for an appointment to get her license, saw they were 5 weeks out. But they also have a limited number of walk-ins per day. So she and my wife went at 8:30, got an appointment for 11:00 that day, and now she’s driving as well. Either way, no more taking an entire day off work to deal with DMV.
those DMV self-service kiosks . . . usually within grocery stores here . . . are extremely popular, from what I’m seeing
I got a car with expired plates. It had been sitting 1 yr+.
I have to transfer title in person in order to then get new plates/tabs.
Are most folks here saying they can transfer title online as well? Or am I hearing that wrong?
I hope the employee driving that earns a decent living with good benefits
I personally dislike driving vehicles that are pretty much all blind spot

I can release my interest in a vehicle online, but not transfer into my name.
In Tennessee, you go to your local county clerk’s office to handle vehicle title transfers, not the DMV, the DMV is officially called the Driver Services Center (but we still call it the DMV), it is strictly used to manage driver identity, testing, and licensing, rather than vehicle paperwork…
Same here. I can even get issued plates at the town hall. Just walk in, no waiting with about 2,500 residents in town. They send paperwork to state and I get title in the mail about a week later.
DMV is for license renewal where they need updated photo or to make a change to it, testing etc. Simple renewal is online. Last time I went was to get Real-ID 5 years ago.

In NC there are DMV’s and Drivers license offices and they are separate. DMV’s are for vehicle plates. And the other is, well, you know!
It’s actually called county service center near me. They do many things related to cars but they do not do motor vehicle license exams.
They do license renewals but not exams
