We have a '97 Ford Escort station wagon with only 67,000 miles on it. We had the gas tank replace approx 1-1/2 yrs ago due to a leak. We had to bring the car back to the mechanic for the same problem just the other day. We also let him know that he was the mechanic who replaced the first one. His reply was that the “ethanol” in the gas now is the reason for this leak. Is this true or did we NOT get a new gas tank when we brought the car in 1-1/2 yrs ago.
The gas tank in your 97 Escort is designed to handle a 10% concentration of ethanol in the gas. It sounds like this so-called mechanic is trying to pull a fast one.
