I dunno. I can’t remember which car but I rented one with those little mirrors on the side mirror. I think it was the Ford Focus, whatever the little one is. Must be standard equipment but I found it very distracting. They seemed to block a portion of the side mirrors that I didn’t care for at all. Maybe you get used to them but I didn’t like them.
As far as who is to blame, the thing is defensive driving would fault the guy for speeding up to prevent the OP from making the lane change indicated. A defensive driver would not do that. Accidents happen when two people make a mistake and speeding up on the left lane is a good way to increase the odds. Just IMHO.
