Hi,
I have a 2010 Subaru Forester and it has started to make a weird noise when I make slow and sharp turns, like when I am pulling out of a driveway or entering a parking spot. It is not exactly a knocking noise, it is similar to the one when a small piece of rock is stuck on the tire threads, but it is in the center of the car. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.
This is almost surely a sign that the center viscous coupler is failing, and is usually the result of running with mis-matched tires.
Have the tires been rotated on a consistent basis?
Are all 4 tires of the same brand, model, and size?
Do all 4 tires have the same amount of tread depth?
If the answer to any of these questions is “no”, then you have identified the reason for problems with the center viscous coupler.
Hmmm…no response so far to my questions…
In any event, if the OP happens to read this, I suggest that he take his Forester to a Subaru dealership, as many mechanics are not well-versed in the workings of a Subaru AWD system.
CV joints can offer up this symptom when they start to fail. Especially an outer CV joint. Not sure if a Forrester uses CV joints though.
