Key FOB replacements Question

What is the most expensive KEY FOB replacement in the market? Has anyone had to replace their KEY FOB? If so, what car and how much did it cost?

No clue on most expensive, however I just had an extra valet key made for our 2011 Subaru and my favorite locksmith charged $75. Took him a few days to get the right key, but he is much cheaper and more convenient than my Subaru dealer.

The Pagani Hawawarawara key I believe

Replacement key FOB’s are readily available on ebay.

I’m curious about the claim (made in reference to my two Ford Fusions) that if I have two keys, I can get a third made and train the car to recognize it easily, but if I have two keys and lose one, the only way to train the car to recognize a new second key is to go to the dealer and spend some enormous sum for some reason.

The new Ford programmed key system (PATS II) now requires two keys to program a third key because previously a parking valet could make a copy of your key from the single key you gave him to park your car. That is the principal reason why it now requires two keys for the car owner to make himself a duplicate.

Up to eight programmed keys are allowed per car.

I agree with what Mechaniker said… It’d be pretty low security if anyone could just clone a key fob in 10 seconds with one key. But maybe a better solution would be to require the owner to punch in a code on the stereo or something to clone a key if only one key remains. This would eliminate a lot of hassle, and who needs to make another key unless they lose one? And how many people need 3 keys to their car, ‘just in case’?

Thanks, Mechaniker. That makes sense.
