Karmann Ghia

I am thinking about buying a Karmann Ghia as a project car and was wondering if it was possible to put a Porsche engine and transmission in. I was thinking about an engine from a Porsche 986 boxster as well as the transmission. was wondering if that was even possible

Anything’s possible, given enough money. But very much money, in this case, going from air to water cooled, huge jump in hp, rear to mid-engine, etc. You’d probably be better putting custom bodywork on a Boxster to make it look like a KG.

I had a friend put a gm 360 in an mg, the front suspension needed to be beefed up, anything is possible.

Years ago, I saw a Corvair in a magazine that had a small block Chevrolet installed, so I suppose what you want to do is possible. I’ve actually seen a Chevrolet Vega station wagon with a V-8 engine installed.

Back in the 1950’s, I remember seeing a Buick V-8 installed in a 1953 Studebaker and a 1954 Cadillac V-8 installed in a 1951 Mercury. When I was a teenager, my parents had a 1952 Dodge with the flathead 6 that I drove. I thought I wanted to swap in a Dodge V-8 from 1953 or 1954, but my dad told me that the only engine he would allow me to exchange for the flathead 6 would be a Briggs and Stratton one cylinder of 3 horsepower.
