Jetta speed sensor

My check engine light came on a couple weeks ago on my 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. I took it into the garage and they said it was the speed sensor that needed to be replaced. They ordered the part but it didn’t come in before I left town for 3 weeks… In the meantime… my car sat in the garage. I just returned yesterday and had no problem driving home from the airport, but today while running errands, the acceleration is jerky and it is fluctuating between 5000 and 10,000 RPM when in neutral at stop lights. Is it safe to drive it the 10 miles to the mechanic or should I resort to having it towed? NERVOUS

10,000 rpm? I don’t think so. Your engine would self-destruct at that speed. I think maybe it’s fluctuating between 500 and 1,000 rpm at idle. Normal idle speed is about 750 rpm.

Yes, it’s safe to drive it ten miles to your mechanic.

hahah yeah… sorry… mis-typed there…it shouldn’t be fluctuating though should it?
