Is this board fading out?

Hey, Hey, Hey, there keep the horses out of this @Rod Knox.

Besides I’ve always been told it’s the horseshoer that smells so bad. Hot long day, under a horse will do that to ya.

As far as the forum goes. As I said before it ebbs and floes. One week we get good questions but they trickle in…the next week we are at a steady stream.
Other weeks it’s a bore to come and answer the questions that could be found in their manual.

Even those question don’t bother me. Some vehicles are bought used without a manual.

I just skip commenting on some of the sillier ones.

If the show would take off again, then this forum would see a corresponding increase, because people believe they are getting personal attention from the Hosts,I think the percentage you see now are basically people with bona fida problems and are seeking solutions, the regulars usually set the thought train straight in short order and are pretty good about providing serious and well considered answears.

Yes Kevin, but yours was the only comment all day the 26th. At least this very long thread may be fading out, but the BBS lives on. This thread is proof enough for me.

Look for a PM above.

Well actually sometimes a thread will get pushed to the back and forgotten,I remember when the Brothers were retiring, people would post on these forums, wishing them well and whatever,we dont know whether they read the posts or not.Money and Fame talks,BS walks. Many times I have been snubbed when the Man with the Lucre came around, people have a tendency to gravitate towards those that have.I wish the Show could find Viable replacements to fill those “Big Shoes”(but not imitators,I cant stand poor imitation).

just keeping the thread open…

I think the board is alive and well, but as mentioned, today’s cars are harder to fix and to diagnose. And the posters often have not familiarized themselves with their vehicles or the manuals. So a lot of time is wasted.

The guy who did not know if he had a spare tire should not be posting any tire questions.

I agree that cars are getting more sophisticated, and thus, harder to fix and diagnose, if you’re a DIY guy

However, many basic problems can be avoided by reading the owner’s manual, following the severe service schedule, popping the hood, keeping tire pressures correct, keeping fluid level correct, using common sense, etc

But with today’s marketing, people think cars are maintenance free, and then they’re upset when something does happen, often due to negligence

And then, in their mind, they think brand x builds worthless cars

When in reality, the owner is worthless

Someone commented about a motor being used to generate a different voltage or frequency. My memory is not famous for its perfection. But, the word dynamotor popped into my mind. Whether the word is correct, that is exactly what they did. Put in a motor/generator which runs off the supply voltage and frequency, and outputs the new voltage and frequency. I believe it was used more in airplanes than in cars, though.

It doesn’t help that owners manuals are sometimes really hard to find information in. I have a 2015 subaru legacy with a push button start. This is the first car I’ve had with that feature. So I go to start it and it kind of beeps at me and the screen says “See Owners Manual” and it has a steering wheel symbol in orange and then it says “Steering wheel locked”. So I search under steering wheel - nothing about this. I can’t search by the symbol. I try looking under locking - nothing.

I basically give up and try twisting the wheel back and forth a bit. Then I hit the button, no dice - same message. So I would normally move the wheel while turning the key in that sort of car, so I can’t do that as the wheel barely will move. Finally, I think, well, what if I just hold the wheel a bit to the side and press the button? And lo and behold, it starts. The manual however was useless - I couldn’t find anything about this issue in the index.

You know what would have been good? Where the screen is telling me what’s wrong, and to check the manual - it could … IDK tell me how to fix the problem, or at least give a page number!

The crazy stuff they put on new cars(reminds of the newer windows OS s(50 ways to confuse your lover) in some ways "OnStar"is a great thing[except if you live in WVA]
