Is Rockauto having a problem?

Were the pictures of the part on Rockauto the same as what you received?

Yes, they were. But since I had not removed the airbag yet, I did not know there were 2. And they say not to rely on that.

I’m not saying that they are charging “whatever they want” . I believe that the shipping was entered wrong. Unfortunately it is difficult to get them to review the shipping charges and correct them. Once in the computer, they get stuck there. BTW, I just ordered an exhaust pipe from them, the price of the pipe and shipping was reasonable.

If you’re using a VPN on your computer that might have an effect. I’ve had it happen that their computers thought I lived in some far off land because of my VPN being activated, resulting in some astronomical estimates for shipping. If I temporarily deactivated the VPN the shipping estimates returned to something that would be normal. Just a thought.

We’re still working on Christmas cookies. Tonight I has a sugar cookie Christmas tree, fudge, and Mrs O’s cookie. Mrs JT makes them and they are divine. She makes a lot of other Christmas cookies too and they are divine.

Well dave - get to work! A little flour. A little butter. Some sugar. And whatever else

I keep Christmas going into early January. But this is getting a little extreme.

I’ve often thought about duckduckgo - how has the experience been with it? Other than that, you know, you don’t get free cookies with it

Yeah, I can burn water
I screwed Ramen Noodle Soup up one time for the kids lunch when the wifey was too sick to fix it

I stay out of the kitchen and leave the cooking up to those that know how to
My son can cook more stuff than my daughter

Just get the edible cookie dough, no need to bake.

I like it. There are blank spaces on the page where ads usually are and if I visit a page, I don’t get emails reminding me of the things I looked up. I bookmark favorites and can also “fireproof” them, meaning that I don’t have to enter my username and password every time I visit that particular site. Try it and see if you like it. You can always delete it if it doesn’t have features you want or need.

We aren’t trying to extend the holiday. The cookies just last for three months. We have a couple-a-three after dinner a few days a week and don’t eat store bought cookies until some time in March.

Why did you all have to bring up Christmas cookies. Now the smell of Snickerdoodles fresh from the oven is on my mind.

Rock Auto isn’t the only parts vendor that’s having problems. I just got to the stage of needing this item for my big project, and O’Reilly doesn’t seem to have it in stock. :open_mouth:

You know if you have a decent browser you can turn off cookies, or just 3rd party cookies, on a per website basis! Or only allow them on a per site basis. Or look though the cookie manager and see all the cookies sorted by domain. You can even save the cookies and export to another browser if you wish.

It’s mostly based on Bing search, although they add some of their own search results too I believe. It’s great as far as not requiring Javascript or banning proxy or VPN IP addresses since Google does this. The bad part about it is they have gone away from traditional search engine logic of having exact string matches in quotes and the AND OR operators. If you put something in quotes, Duckduckgo will remove the quotes and still give you search results as if the quotes weren’t there. Yahoo seach has also removed support for these features. I just did a DDG search and the “exact phrase” match seems to work now. Maybe they fixed it or maybe it removes the quotes for certain searches.

Both Google and Bing (and therefore Duckduckgo) and possibly to a lesser extent Yahoo search seem to promote content served by big corporations, and tend to be victims of sites that are advertising revenue based article content mills that heavily rely on SEO. You know those articles that tell you how to fix your car that seem like they’re written by someone who has never worked on a car before but knows how to copy and paste content from 20 different other sources to make something look good.

Just did a search for yandex AND (bing OR google OR yahoo) on Duckduckgo and it seems to be mostly obeying the logical operators. The first result does violate the search rules since it returs yandex.com which does not contain any of the words bing, google, or yahoo.

It’s possible, they might be a victim of fraud. My short stint in retail taught me that people will abuse that return policy in ways you cannot imagine. They will try to substitute a defective, broken part with the new part, change the stickers and then try to return it and get their money back. The store takes them at their word, and they get away with it at least for a while. Meanwhile that item gets put back on the shelf only to wind up in some innocent customers hands.

I always inspect the packaging on whatever I am buying because of this issue. Related to car parts, I recently was in an auto parts store looking for a ball joint (I already had one, looking for another). Guy brings out the part, open the box and find the bag opened. The ball joint has greasy fingerprints all over it and appears like it was tried to be installed. Next. We went through all four of their parts in stock and found similar results. No sealed bags on any of them and evidence of molestation :grinning: One looked like the used part was put back in the box. Head on down the road to the next place and bought one that was new. Why don’t they inspect the returns? You rip open the bag and touch it with your greasy hands- that’s your ball joint now

That one advantage pro mechanics have over diy’ers, with their own parts suppliers, less chance of getting a faulty part, damaged by some diy’er on an ill-conceived repair attempt, or even a good part but put in the wrong box, wrong label, then returned.
