I have owned a car with a sunroof (or moonroof) since 1979. Currently both cars have one. My wife’s is a panoramic sunroof as was her previous car. She like hers for the light, but mine is open virtually all the time. I personally would not ever buy a car without one.
If you don’t want one there are plenty of cars available. I recently had a Hertz rental that had all the electronic bells and whistles, but no sunroof.
Is ordering your next car out of the question? If the dealer makes your car one of the next order cycle with the manufacturer, it should be the cheapest car of that model on the lot. They don’t have to pay any interest on the car between delivery and sale. That should be a couple-a-three percent of the MSRP. Maybe you could get a share of that price reduction.
In 50 years of buying cars, I’ve never seen. Always been able to get a car cheaper that was sitting on their lot then ordering one. Sometimes I had to compromise a little, but not too much.
When I bought my current car, in November 2022, the first 3 dealers that I visited were very reluctant to take orders. I wasn’t really in a rush, and was willing to wait for… maybe… six months for a special-order vehicle, but every dealer that I visited either said that they weren’t taking special orders, or that delivery of a special-order could take 1-2 years.
I lucked-out when another dealership–which also wasn’t taking special orders–had 3 of the vehicles in which I was interested “in transit”. While I wound-up with a couple of options that I wouldn’t have paid for if I had my choice, I actually have grown to like those options, so it all worked-out okay for me in the long run.
I found that I really like the HUD and the puddle lights, so I don’t regret having to pay for them.
Other features (adaptive cruise control, front and rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot warning, and cameras all around)–which were standard but were previously unknown to me–are also really good to have.
I had to order my Model 3 from the factory and could get any options I wanted in it. The main delay was color. If I wanted a red car it would have delayed delivery by at least a month. I ordered the standard white M3 and delivery took a little over a week. I didn’t ask about the white interior, roof rack, or 18” wheels.
I’m the kind of guy that drives with the windows down whenever possible so I like my sunroof. But most people probably don’t even know their windows roll down so I guess a sunroof is not for them. To each his own.
I’m not too picky on color. I DON’T want a Black or White color vehicle. Pretty much any other color is fine with me. I’ve owned Red, Multiple Greens, Blues, Greys, Yellow (I really just tolorated that color).
Tesla has a color of the month and in February 2023 it was white. Now it’s stealth grey and white is $1000. Other colors cost up to $2000 more. I’m not picky for color and I’m cheap, so white it was. Also, the tax credit was only guaranteed through the end of 2/23 and white was the only way to lock that in.
I heard that on a Tesla, certain colors cost more, or take longer for delivery. I never could understand that. Other brands seem to have no difficulty producing all of the colors that are offered…although nowadays there aren’t many paint colors offered.
When I ordered my 2004 Toyota Corolla, I chose all of the most basic options, and the paint color “Lunar”. I have driven silver cars all my life, why mess with success?
