The power door locks on our 1997 Ford Explorer will randomly unlock. Locking the doors manually by pressing the lock button or setting the locks with the key button has no affect. This is all original equipment and there is no after market alarm system. The random unlocking sometimes goes several days between occurances and sometimes the doors will unlock themselves every few minutes. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to begin looking to try to diagnose and fix the problem?
Pull the door panel on the driver’s door. Look for broken wire(s) in the harness that goes into the body from this door. That harness is flexed every time the driver’s door opens or closes. Eventually it breaks. Splice all the broken wires. That should do it. HINT: Sometimes the break is inside the unbroken insulation and is not visible.
