Insurance on handicapped accessible minivan

I just bought a Dodge Grand Caravan minivan which has been converted for wheelchair accessibility and I’m astounded at the insurance premiums quoted. I’d like to hear from other owners of conversion minivans to find out if my experience is usual or if I should keep looking for cheaper insurance. Thanks!

Ask the companys why the premiums are so much higher than you’re (apparently) used to. Perhaps there are other factors involved rather than the conversion.

You’re driving a vehicle that cost $40,000-$80,000 new. If you get in a wreck, the insurance company is going to have to replace all the conversion stuff, as well as the vehicle, which is expensive.

That said, not all insurance companies are created equal. I switched to State Farm from Liberty Mutual and saved myself over $100 a month. Shop around.
