Instrument panel hot to touch

Steering wheel on my 04 Silverado 2500 diesel 4x4 has buttons on it that operate the radio, digital trip odometer, etc. They became hot(not warm) to the touch during a 100 mile trip (50 degrees outside, heater on feet). The radio and other buttons on the dash also became hot, as did the faceplate on radio. Called dealer who said “normal, dash lights create heat.” My steering wheel doesn’t have lights. IS this normal?

How long have you had this vehicle? Has this ever happened before? If not, then it’s NOT normal. The radio faceplate gets warm on some of my vehicles, but nothing else does. Was the ignition switch and key also hot?

Bought it new. Never happened before. Ignition switch and key were not hot (nothing on steering column was hot or warm.)
