Ill running Explorer

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. It has a 5.0 liter V8 and All-Wheel Drive. I have put 186,000 miles on it and have only had a few problems with it. My Current problem is that when I give my truck more than a modest amount of gas it will sometimes sputter and miss. Other times it will run fine. and sometimes it will really jerk and sputter. What is wrong with my ride?

More info is always needed to even make a wild guess. Any Check Engine Light on, when was the fuel filter last changed, if ever, etc.
You need to get the codes pulled (AutoZone, etc. will do this for you free) and check the fuel filter to see if it’s clogged. If the filter has never been changed then there is a good chance you could have a failing fuel pump; and pumps can be an intermittent problem.

The check engine light is not on, the fuel filter is new. The only extra info I can give you is that this happened after a very hard rain and my truck almost stalled out when I drove through a deep puddle. I also have never had the spark plugs changed but when I look at the plugs, they don’t appear to be fouled or bad.
