If you've always wanted a Shelby Cobra

… you might want to buy a raffle ticket or two.

One of my all time favorite cars… As I understand it, it has a NASCAR based 358ci bored and stroked to 427ci and good for 600 NA HP…

There are (or at least use to be) several companies that made Cobra Replica’s. Very difficult to tell the difference between that and the real deal. I’ve seen a few Cobra’s that the owner swore they were genuine Cobra’s. I have no idea if they weren’t or not. I knew one guy that did own a kit Cobra and it looked exactly like all the other Cobra’s I’ve seen.

I can tell when a body is made of fiberglass vs metal. Are any ac cobra replicas made of metal?

Cobra body’s are Aluminum.

Years ago, ■■■■ Stars bought just the Cobra body shell valued at $50,000 and then built it up and sold it for a lot of money.

P.A.W.N - Why that word is blocked out is a mystery.

Some are fiberglass but the Shelby built continuation cars and other higher end builds are aluminum.

Shelby built 10 1966 Gt350 convertibles out of original body shells in the early 8o’s. I’ve seen one of them in person and you’d only know it wasnt3built in 66 like that if you knew Shelby’s. Fairly sure it was the car on BAT that sold for about $131,000 a few years ago. Had a family out for a summer cruise the first sighting.

Podcast host told a story of exhibiting a fiberglass replica at the New York Auto Show years ago. Kid walked up to open the non functional drivers door pulling hard. Back when he rented exotic cars out of NYC.

The censoring algorithm might think that p-a-w-n and p-o-r-n are the same. That type of confusion doesn’t make much sense, but…

Earlier this year I was in Vegas for a few days and visited the Shelby shop. I highly recommend it if you’re ever out that way. They have some crazy-rare Cobras and one-offs on display.

Including the only surviving Super Snake (twin supercharged 427)

And a rare Cobra Terlingua with the also very rare 427 cammer.

Tons of other Mustangs and cars that Shelby was associated with/raced/built as well.

There are reproduction aluminum bodied Cobras built in Poland in an old MiG factory.

As cool as they look, as fast as they are, Cobras are a hot angry bear to live with. No top, no AC, but the heater is great and ALWAYS on. They are an oven in traffic, awful in a rainstorm. There are tops available but putting one up would leave you drenched in the sunshine by the time it was up.

But they are ■■■■■■ …censored word,.s.t.u.p.i.d…. crazy fun! Every exotic car dealer in the Naples area I have been to has at least one around. People tire of them pretty quickly and trade them with low miles.

In that case, this car has nothing to do with NASCAR. The 427 Fords that raced in NASCAR had no relationship to the 358 block and neither did the 427 Cobra.

The engine is based off of the very same small block 358ci engine that is still used in NASCAR, but has been bored and stroked to 427ci, it has everything to do with NASCAR engine wise, the engine is only paying homage to the original big block 427, is has nothing to do with the original 427 of yesteryears…

The Tremec 5 speed manual transmission has nothing to do with the original 4speed manual either…

The the new Cobra is not NASCAR based, only the engine…

The old 427 was an FE block, a “big block”. The engine used in NASCAR is the FR9, it has a purpose built block that was never used in any road-going production vehicle. The FR9 has been used in the Cup series in one form or another since 2009 it only comes in 358 CID. Before that, Ford used the R452, the R452 basically a tall deck 351W small block. Being a part of the Windsor family, it’s available in several displacements, including a 427 CID displacement, that you can buy with a few clicks and hefty dent to your wallet on Ford Racing’s website. 427 CUBIC INCH 535 HP BOSS CRATE ENGINE-Z2 HEADS-REAR SUMP PAN| Part Details for M-6007-Z2427FRT | Ford Performance Parts

The engine on the NASCAR Cobra is likely a 427W that was built by Ernie Elliott. Could’ve been based off of an older R452 NASCAR engine that they simply stroked out to 427.

I only meant that the engine had nothing to do with the 427 big block that raced in Nascar and also nothing to do with the 427 Cobra.

FWIW, the only model that would interest me would be an original with the 260 engine.
