ICE vs. EV – 5 year ownership cost

I missed this earlier. This comparison is just childish. You can’t compare insurance of a small car to that of Luxury car of the same size. Why not compare the Tesla to the 3 series BMW or the C series Mercedes? That would be a fair comparison. Insurance is based on cost of vehicle, driver history (actually insurance claim history), and type of vehicle (mid-size, sports car, luxury sport car…etc).

Only if you do it yourself (which most people don’t). $80 is closer to the true cost.

Car and Driver’s comments on the Model 3 after the long term test;

“After coming to terms with the minimalist interior and lack of gauge-cluster display in front of the driver, we generally liked the Model 3. It’s quick, reasonably spacious, and comfortable if a bit noisy over the road.”

This is a luxury car?

The power of marketing. Hats off to Musk’s marketing team…convincing people the Model3 is a “luxury car” when it’s really just a Corolla with a battery pack that costs double the Corolla.

Toyota has stuck the Hybrid innards of the Prius into the 2023 Corolla…starts at $26k…smart!

Depends on where you live; I routinely get $25.99 oil change offers in the mail. Ends up being ~$30 with “disposal fees” and tax, but lots of places for $40 or less.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. You need to educate yourself before, so you stop making ignorant statements like that. But that has already been proven to be an impossible task.

Search “is the Tesla Model 3 a luxury car” and you’ll find: YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

This is superb social marketing on the part of Tesla…I mean A+ religion level marketing…I am impressed…it’s so good you don’t even see it…top notch.

Now, head over to Car and Driver’s review of the 2022 Model 3 and search the page for “luxury”…nope. They don’t call it “luxury” in any way…the description is more like an econ-box with split folding seats and such…in fact they say:

It’s shockingly simple inside, with nearly everything controlled by the monolithic touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. The Tesla’s low, flat floor makes for a spacious and airy feel inside. LOL! “Folding seats to haul larger items” and rear seats so cramped and uncomfortable they’re best for children…LOL!..Yes, yes, yes, a true “luxury car”; can’t wait for Audi and Mercedes to copy Tesla’s Model 3 “luxury”.

While some people’s car religion is settled, other people may be “on the fence”. Hearing both sides of an “argument” is how people learn…

So the Audi S3 or the BMW 3 series or the Mercedes C Class are NOT considered Luxury vehicles? You need to get out more.

The Tesla Model 3’s styling is the less successful of the two. Considering the Model 3 has virtually the same dimensions as the BMW, it’s surprising how stubby the Tesla looks in comparison.

The massive 15.0-inch touchscreen in the Tesla Model 3 isn’t as visually appealing as BMW’s 10.3-inch setup It looks like an oversized monitor hastily tacked onto the dash.

Model 3 doesn’t have any leather trim in its cabin. It uses a faux vegan leather instead

They give the win to the Tesla because it has a “more modern buyer” design…not because it’s “more luxurious”. They love the EV performance aspect; that’s the winner in this review.

Yet the Tesla was the overall winner. That’s a fair comparison.

We’re talking about “luxury”, and the M3 is no A3.

What he’s saying there is the A3 is more “luxurious”.

To me, the M3 doesn’t offer $23,000 more in “luxury” than a Corolla; if you want “luxury”, your money is better spent on the A3.

They’re both considered entry level luxury vehicles. The Corolla is NOT. I’ve driven the A3. Nice vehicle…but I don’t consider it much better than the Tesla Model 3. Definitely now where near performance. Handling in the A3 is a little better. Ride comfort is better in the Model 3.

The Corolla is not in the same class…but you keep your delusions. I live in the real world.

I must say that I do appreciate the information or data of the two vehicles, we need other cars, trucks also I find that the arguments of those making a point of the lack of info. of truly Apples to Apples. We all know that EV is coming! I personally cannot afford the inflated costs of what is out there now! Also I would like to know why the EV manufactures cannot get better self-charging vehicles or better hydrogen vehicles.

Is your charging complaint that it takes too long to charge the battery? Or that once charged they need another charge in too few miles? i.e. range is too short? Battery charging is currently a chemical-diffusion process that is limited by the laws of physics on how much time is required. Longer battery range with current battery designs requires a heavier and more bulky battery, both undesirable. An invention is required to get around those limits. Hydrogen, in gaseous form, very explosive if mixed w/air, & in order to have enough of it on-board to power a car, it has to be stored under high pressures and/or very low temperatures. Difficult to guarantee it remains contained. Safety concerns, both when in a car’s fuel system, and delivering the hydrogen to the filling stations. Again an invention is required for hydrogen to become practical in an everyday-use car. Inventions seems more likely for the battery problems than for the hydrogen.

Do you believe hydrogen cars and refilling stations are somehow flawed? It will take time for a nationwide network to be developed, doesn’t seem to be any government support.
