I am getting my windshield replaced tomorrow by SafeLite. When I contacted them about an appointment they claimed no special glass is required. Is that true now in 2025, or are they giving me BS?
My glass is clearly marked as HUD.

I don’t know if anyone here has the answer but call your local dealer and another glass shop. Also when you go to Safelite ask them if they will replace the windshield if your HUD does not work .
SafeLite is one of the best out there, They will install the glass that fits and works for your vehicle… They also use Pilkington which is an OEM glass maker…
They carry other brands also…
Depending in what state you live in, it may be illegal for Safelite to install a windshield with a 70% transparency rating.

I’m thinking that them saying nothing special means that HUD and the 70% transparency is all standard for your glass model, so nothing special…
Kind of like a vehicle comes with ABS, traction control, TPMS etc etc is nothing special anymore cause it is standard…
Not just standard, it’s required!
Yes, but to the point, it is nothing special…
If the SafeLite is in your state, they will do it by the book. Since they are a national chain I’m sure that they would use your state approved windshield even if they ar the next state over. If you want to make sure and you know the state next door has different standards, just remind them where you live.
I don’t think it has anything to do with fit or safety, however oem may have sound deadening or other qualities that an after market doesn’t. At least that was the case with our Acura but didn’t seem to matter.
Without the special coating, the heads-up display won’t work to your satisfaction.
If the Safelite clerk states that their windshield is compatible, then this must be true, a desk clerk has never been wrong. I don’t know what this has to do with the state you are located.

I just downloaded the work order, and I feel better now. Looks like they know about the HUD and will replace it with the correct glass.
I think that is what I said all along…
Yep. @davesmopar is correct. Here is what the new glass has.
It very well may BE the same glass, minus the General Motors logo
