On my '93 Ford Ranger XLT (2.3L I4), the hood is stuck shut. The latch in the cabin has very little resistance and the wire is still connected to the latch assembly. I tried manually unlatching it with a long screwdriver, but I cannot find the switch that will unlock the latch so I can open the hood.
You might have to remove the grill to get at the release mechanism.

Update: A spring just fell out of it
I had this problem on a S10 and the local body shop opened it and fixed the cable for about 100.00 several years ago.
