My 2001 Honda Civic started idling loudly (sounds like it is coming from the front of the car) and omitting stronger than usual exhaust smell when first started. In addition, the car makes loud noises when I apply the gas pedal getting louder the harder I apply the gas. I hit a pothole about a week ago and the noise got significantly has been worse since then. Does anyone have an idea of what this might be?
Sounds like part of your exhaust system has come apart and is now leaking, probably before the catalytic converter.
Have someone look at the car exhaust leaks are dangerous.
Your Civic has a leak in its exhaust system. This should be repaired ASAP since breathing exhaust fumes is extremely hazardous to your health.
Take the car your mechanic and have the exhaust system checked and repaired.
