as I’m driving my ford focus I hear a growling noise from the right front. It goes away while turning left.
I jacked it up and feel no play in the wheel. I’m thinking it is either the wheel bearing or the drive axle.
How could I tell which one?
Sounds like a wheel bearing to me, shop verification is better than web speculation.
Place your hand on the strut spring and then slowly rotate the tire. Sometimes a rough bearing will transfer into the strut spring where it can be felt.
