I have a 2000 Ford Focus with 118,000 mi. Over the past 3-4 thsd miles, it has started becoming very noisy going down the highway. But when I turn the wheel to the right slightly, the noise seems to almost dissappear. I don’t know if this might be the transmission or the u-joints or something. Any response would be greatly appreiciated.
The noise may be caused from a worn out wheel bearing.
To find out, raise the vehicle so the front tire is off the ground. Grab the tire at the 6:00 and 12:00 oclock positions, and try wiggling the tire. There should be no play in the tire when doing this. If there is, that wheel bearing is probably worn out.

Since this is a front wheel drive, would this method apply to both sides(right and left) of the car. I’m not sure which side this noise is coming from. Also thanks for the reply.
