Gas smell mits outlander 2003

Whenever my hubby comes home after driving his car, he wreaks of gasoline. We

took it to the dealership but they didn’t find anything wrong with it. What can

we do about this, it can’t be healthy!

The first thing to check is the engine oil. Remove the dipstick and smell the oil on the end. If it has a gas odor, fuel is leaking into the crankcase. This could be caused from a leaking fuel pressure regulator.

The second thing to check are the fuel injectors. Each injector is sealed at the fuel rail and at the intake manifold by small rubber O-rings. If any of these O-rings are leaking even the slightest amount of gas, this gas hits the hot engine and vaporizes. And a small amount can cause a strong gas odor.

The dealership says they checked these things out and cannot find the problem…do you have any other suggestions? I ABSOLUTELY know that this problem exists, the smell is amazingly strong (to me) and I don’t know what else to do. I’m worried about my husbands health as he commutes about 2 hours a day.
