Fuel Tank Ventilation

I have a 2003 Ford Exploxer Sport Trac. I constantly get blow back when putting gas in the tank. What do I need to do to check the tank ventilation. Is it an easy fix.

You’ll want to see if your evap lines are clogged…they run into the top of the fuel tank and can’t easily be accessed without dropping the tank.

Do you always top the tank off when you fill-up? Doing so will cause liquid gasoline to enter the lines (which are only supposed to carry fumes) and will create problems like this.

The two usual problems are vent or fill lines that are blocked (maybe twisted or bent) or clogged charcoal filter. The second one can be caused by a driver topping off the tank when they fill it up. The first is usually poor assembly or a accident repair error.
