I own a 1994 Ford Ranger/160,000 miles. I live in Phx. Lately, the transmission often will not engage when I first start the engine. More recently it will slip out of gear at stop signs and will stay in neutral, even though it is in drive. This is periodic, but must be a sign of worse to come. Can anyone tell me what could be the issue? The fluid level is OK.
Any info would be appreciated.
Go to a mechanic who knows transmissions(not those flaky chain places) and have the linkage between the shift lever and the tranny checked for adjustment.
