Getting close near me. One town is considering 16 year old voters.
logan98? did you change the pass side only? did you use ford oem? how about the driver side? and the trans mount down below? do all 3 and report back. i did the same. pass side first. very little improvement. than i did the driver side. lifted motor and when i put on the mount, i found i had to lift it another 1" as i tightened the nuts. settled much more than i thought. noise is much reduced now
I just replaced the passenger side. I’m suspecting it needs the trans mount also but giving back to owner to see if they are satisfied. If not, will replace more mounts and report back
So you’re the mechanic . . . not the owner?
Why don’t you put the car back on the lift and carefully see just how collapsed and worn out the remaining mounts are
A good light, screwjack, prybar and a mirror ought to tell you the answer. As the others have already mentioned, you should expect the remaining mounts to also be toast
I sure hope you replaced the hydraulic mount with the correct type, and not a solid rubber mount. This is one of those cases where I recommend you buy locally . . . as opposed to online . . . in case there is a problem with the new parts. That’s not an uncommon problem, in case you bought aftermarket mount(s)
And for what it’s worth . . . we have several Ford Focuses of the same vintage in our fleet. The mounts only last a few years. I’m guessing the hydraulic mount lost most or all of the fluid . . . ?
It lost its fluid. Put another hydraulic mount in it. I don’t buy cheap aftermarket parts online because I’ve been burned to many times trying to save money that way. You end up spending more in the long run. The best thing to do was to probably replace all the mounts like you said. The problem is this individual doesn’t want to spend money
Sounds like the surest way to get the car as smooth as possible is to replace any worn/defective mounts with OEM parts, as you’ve already started to do. It’ll probably be even better after you do the rest of them
As for the customer not wanting to spend money . . . is it that they want you to buy cheapo parts, or are they just complaining in general about any money being spent maintaining the car?
If it’s the former, you could explain that you prefer installing oem parts, because they fit better, last longer, and that results in a more effective repair.
If it’s the latter . . . if they really don’t have the money to maintain the car properly, I’d be worried about getting paid at all. But if they’re just a whiner, then is that really a person you need to retain as a customer?
Yeah, the Focuses in our fleet also lost their fluid. Replacing the mounts with oem made a significant difference. My brother’s Mazda also uses the same Ford hydraulic mount. It also lost its fluid, which resulted in shaking. Replacing with oem solved that problem. Almost every single part in the engine bay blatantly says “FoMoCo”
