Ford Focus Manual Transmission Problem 5th and Reverse

I have a 2005 Focus ST ZX4 with Manual Transmission with about 78,000 miles. Today, I cannot shift into 5th gear or Reverse. 1st through 4th gears are OK. Almost seems like something is blocking the gates of the shifter to go all the way over to the right to get 5th and Reverse.



Any ideas ?

Usually it is the cable, I would check that out first. Also check if you have enough fluid anif old, I would change it. Next I would have a good mechanic or transmission shop check the mechnism inide the gear box.

Is checking the cable something I can do myself? If so do you have instructions?
