Ford Focus Air Vent Directional Control

Having difficulty getting the air vent directional control knob to turn on my ford focus. I pulled the knob and cable from behind the dash and it appears to move freely when it’s not attached to the air ducts themselves. I tried manually turning the knob protruding from the side of the air ducts, and it doesn’t appear to budge. Any advice? Anyone experience this and know what the solution is?

A foreign object (pencil, for instance) might have fallen down one of the vents. Depending on where it lodges, it can block the motion of the internal flaps/doors that direct the flow of air. Have seen it happen. HTH
