Fix or Sell 2011 CX-9 with blown engine?

Depends on how much the OP trusts a used engine. Remember that he is not going to do the work himself as you would. That makes engine replacement way more expensive. You could replace the engine 3 times for the same money he would pay for one engine.

Thatā€™s a lot of incompetence for $175/hr!

@glasspilot To clarify, the mess up was not by my mechanic, rather the dealer when putting in the new engine. Same problem, different entity!

Hi folks,

Here is an update on the 2011 CX-9. I opted for the Jasper remanufactured engine for the 3yr 100K mi warranty. With a friends help I paid a mechanic on the side to install it saving some on the labor cost. Still pretty costly repair and it took about 3 months for the whole process. Mostly because I had to wait for Jasper to get a core return so they could rebuild it.

The engine runs strong and doesnā€™t use oil like the original motor did. Been running it for about 8mos. Iā€™m planning to drive it for 3 years and then decide next steps. The vehicleā€™s value has dropped so just keep driving it.

Thanks @davesmopar for the pointer to Jasper. Much more confident and satisfied than with a junkyard engine Iā€™m sure.
