I own a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2. Last year I replaced wiring plugs for the heater/blower motor under the pass side dash this year the blower motor is working fine except I am only getting cool/luke warm air that is hardly warm enough to defrost the windshield. Any thoughts.
All the blower does is move the air. It has nothing to do with the temperature of the air. Your thermostat may be defective and not allowing the engine to warm up enough to provide sufficient heat. What does your temperature gauge read? If it is in the low end, this may be the problem.
Be certain that the coolant level in the radiator is where it should be. One other possibility is that the heater core may be plugged. This can often be remedied by removing the heater hoses and reverse flushing it with a garden hose.
Thanks for the Ideas sometimes it is the obvious things that are missed now that I think about it I replaced the thermostat over the summer I went with a thermostat that operated at a lower temp per the parts guy at the auto store. This could be the prob and at the minimal cost I think I will start by checking the temp gauge and working back to the thermostat. Thanks for jump starting my memory.
Replacing the T-stat with one of different control temp was a big mistake. The engine may not run well. Change it now.
It is a common misconception that a cooler thermostat will help keep a car from overheating. Not true. Once the thermostat opens at the designed temperature, they are all the same, open or closed. You car was designed to run best and longest at a given temperature. Use only the thermostat recommended by the manufacturer. As it turns out that could be your problem.
