Eleanor has gone to a new home…

Eleanor has gone to a new home…

We donated our 1985 Toyota Corolla LE (my wife named her “Eleanor”) with 230,000 miles on the odometer. We bought her new back in the summer of '84 for about $7,100 and she had all the bells and whistles offered.

She has been a good and faithful car and always got us home… But after 40-years, she was really feeling her age… We only took her out once a month to keep the seals wet and never too far from home… But with four other vehicles and only two drivers, it was a waste of garage space and it was time to move her on to a new home where she could be useful…

Like our RV that we donated to Eggleston about 15-years ago, we donated the ‘85 Toyota to Eggleston Automotive to be auctioned off and for good measure; we donated a 17’ Mad River, Kevlar Canoe.

Eggleston sent a tilt back truck to pick her and the canoe up… Good Bye…………

And here is a copy of the Auction Web Page. She was one of the featured cars…

She sold for $4,500 and the Canoe were for $750… We hope it does a lot of good for the folks that Eggleston supports and trains!

And to all Happy Holidays…

Neat car. 4 decades of memories.
Eggleston Automotive sounds like a great place that makes the most out of donated vehicles. I just read through their webpage.

Maybe you claimed the name “Eleanor” first. But I’m sorry. After the re-make of Gone in 60 Seconds Eleanor is is a '67 Shelby Mustang GT 500.

Love your Eleanor too tho’

Toyota really had a nice looking design in that era. And those cars seem to really hold up well w/just a little preventative work once in a while. And overnight parking in a garage. I never put a canoe on my slightly newer Corolla, but I did haul a furnace home from the home-products store , sitting on the roof , tied down to the bumpers. I’m sorry we’ll be hearing no more stories about it , but I hope the car continues to be found useful to the next owner.

Not only did we use Eleanor to haul the canoe, but did you notice the trailer hitch in the photo of her on the Truck? Back in the day, when we transferred from Air Force Base to Base, U-Haul would still rent a 5’ wide x 7’ long, x 4’ high trailer and we hauled a lot of stuff in that trailer, including my Harley. It was not until 2000 that I got the Ram Truck and then I put Eleanor on a tow trailer (with the canoe on top) and tow her behind the truck. And yes, we do miss her…
