Drivers changing lanes ain't usin' no turn signals, again

To me that sounds like an AI created simulation…

Why? There is sound in the recording but I can’t hear the pilot or anyone else in the cockpit speaking, shouting or screaming. Most noticeably absent is the pilot cursing or praying! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

In my personal observation of almost 60 years of driving, I’d say less then 20% use turn signals when changing lanes.

Mounting camcorder on strut be Ʀrodynamically incorrect.

This YouTube video was posted over 5-months ago but here here is an Instagram recording of it with audio… The one thing strange is that the camera angle is different and the comments are only a few days old… Got to wonder…

As someone that used to drive fast almost on a daily basis, when weather and traffic allowed, I have been in a few jams and never panicked, I am one that stays calm and can think what to do or how to do it… I have been in sideways slides at high rates of speed and yada yada yada blah blah blah…

But I think if I was to come around the bend and see a plane landing on the road in front of me, I would probable ā– ā– ā– ā–  my pants…

So with that being said, the oncoming traffic didn’t seem to worried about a plane landing in front of them, a few cars moved over slightly, but others just drove by like this happens on a daily basis…

In my personal observation, a large percentage of that percentage being drivers of pickup trucks.

About a decade ago or so, I once rolled down my window and politely explained that I nearly collided with the other driver because they failed to indicate their lane change. Their terse response:

ā€œIt’s nobody elses’ business where I’m goingā€.

That attitude, along with the attitude that speed limits are bare minimum driving speed suggestions, both exemplify, to me anyway, that spirit of ā€˜Yankee independence’!

Why in the world would you think that anyone would want or appreciate you ā€œpolitelyā€ explaining to them that you nearly collided with them…

In the first place, that was your problem as ā€œyou nearly collided with them.ā€ And if you had ā€œPolitelyā€ explained to them that they nearly collided with you, well then again, they probably would not care… and a lot of Road Rage instances have started for less than a Polite reminder of a person’s poor driving…

So, my advice is drive defensively and keep your polite reminders to yourself…

How was it ā€œmy problemā€ if they changed lanes right in front of me without first blinkering?

By the way this incident was about ten years ago, I recalled just to highlight that ā€œnone-of-your-businessā€ attitude that some drivers have when it comes to driving, and even with issues on their cars (a rear door, or fuel lid ajar, a low tire, a headlight or other light out). ā€œI know that!ā€ ā€œIt’s not your businessā€.

I’ve seen similar on a student pilots solo flight. Didn’t check fuel levels beforehand and ran out landed in a field with no injuries or damage to the plane or property. Everyone called it a lesson for the student and no real harm done.

I am guessing that you take everything as a personal insult… To change the scenario a bit, would you have felt compelled to ā€œPolitelyā€ explain that they cut up off if they had used their blinkers?

Next, being ā€œnearly collided withā€ is a subjective opinion. Did they force you to slam on your brakes, did they cause to make an emergency lane change to avoid a collision? Probably not, so this was all your problem because you did not like the way they drove and I imagine a lot of people do not like the way your drive either…

And if I remember correctly you usually are the slug in the lane and that wrote, " I mentioned how I do 50mph in a 55, RIGHT HAND LANE on interstates and parkways. . . . Many drivers who try to pass me on the four-laner end up stuck in the left lane behind someone waiting to turn left, as I roll leisurely by in the rightmost lane."

https://community.cartalk.com/t/you-cannot-go-over-the-speed-limit-to-pass-another-vehicle/194529/13?u=loudthunder

So, you might have been blocking the normal flow of traffic and the driver who ā€œnearly collidedā€ with you was just trying to pass the vehicle blocking the normal flow of traffic…

Please don’t try to defend your actions on an event that occurred so many years ago… Just let it go, and keep your opinions to yourself while you are driving on the roads… or you can write them in your diary when you manage to get home safely…

I started experimenting with that practice well after the incident I described with that lane-changer. Back then, I would add 5mph to whatever was posted, and drive that speed.

See my comment above.

Turn signals are so last week!

Doing my part to get to 600! Long ways to go, but, guys, we can do this!!

I hope your ā€˜sarcasm mode’ = On.

You need to stop worrying about how other people drive and pay more attention to how you drive. You can’t/shouldn’t try to control how other people drive. All you have control of is how YOU drive. If you think they don’t drive correctly and are a danger to you and other drivers, then you need to pay more attention to what YOU are doing to keep you and your family safe. If you’re worrying about how other people drive then you’re NOT paying attention to how YOU are driving.

When I was learning to drive, my father advised me of the proper attitude to take behind the wheel.

I am paraphrasing but; Assume every other driver is an idiot that will do the unexpected. Be ready for the unexpected. If it doesn’t come, great! If it does, you are ready.

Had a co-worker moved up here from somewhere in Florida and said he drove to a few new car lots to make sure they still sold turn signals with cars up here…

Just helping CapriRacer get to that 600 mark…

Perhaps you are not aware but as you approach 60-MPH, you are traveling a mile a minute while you are experimenting with your joy riding… Other people lives are in danger while you play around… Go with the flow… and stop trying to justify bad behavior… Don’t expect other drivers to respect your self-defined rules of engagement… If the speed limit is 60 MPH and everyone else is traveling much faster, and you are blocking the normal flow of traffic, get off the road, take a side road and you can mosey at your own pace… You and everyone around you will live longer…

1.) Obeying the law is not ā€œplaying aroundā€.

2.) Read #1).

In general, I respectfully disagree also with the rest of your comments. At the very least, where multiple lanes exist in both directions, on local road or expressway, I make an effort to keep right (or, to keep left if I were driving in countries where the travel directions on roads are the opposite of North America’s).

The mentality (in general and not limited to one or two individuals) that posted and projected speed limits represent minimum operating speeds must be A. recognized and acknowledged, B. reported, by a large enough number of drivers who care, and C. Dealt with in a firm but appropriate manner.

If it is felt that a posted speed limit, anywhere, is too low, the appropriate channels(legal, legislative) must be utilized to express such concern.

Over time, change may take place.
