Drivers changing lanes ain't usin' no turn signals, again

Just to complain, guy moved my trash bin into my drive so he could park, had to move the bin so my wife could get to a DR appointment. People are often rude and unthinking.

Yup, and those bins don’t have turn signals. There ought to be a law that bins have to have turn signals, after all, the bins don’t drive themselves!

Or at least Brake Lights!

Wow, you must have a record for least amount of street front length. Our trash and yard waste pickups are on the same day and have to be at least six feet apart. Doesn’t appear you would be able to do that.

I’m lucky because my recycling days and trash collection days are different. Obviously, it’s not smart to park any of those containers in front of your mailbox, and if I had to put the two recycling containers and the trash container out on the same day–with the proper spacing–in an area that wouldn’t impede the letter carrier’s vehicle, it would be difficult.

Our house is on a corner lot, so the mail box is on a different street than the main upper driveway, and the other drive is over a 100’ from the box anyway
but our trash is on Wed and recycling every other Fridays

I live by a more succinct credo:

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

(More fun with the auto-censor:)

No six foot rule, but we live near a church and school, parking gets to overflow conditions. Had to go to the drug store for prescription for wife, cars parked on both sides of the road which makes it basically a one lane road. People work with it really well for the most part, finding a drive or an opening to let a car pass. Course there was the lady blocking all traffic while waiting 5 minutes for her kid to come to the car, as both lanes of traffic backed up. I did not react but waited and swear she gave me a dirty look after her kid showed up and I was blocking a street as there was nowhere else to go. Now doing a lot of driving in Chicago got used to white knuckle fears of skinny roads with 2 side parking, little margin for error for 2 lane travel, I don’t play that game anymore, unless I am in chicago!

Yes, I remember those days, in winter the snowplows piled the snow on the curbs, eventually creating single lane road.
As far as waiting for her kid, I see similar situations at strip malls, cars blocking the lanes while they go in to get their take out pizza or sushi.

Don’t know if you are old enough. When we moved to Mpls in 1960, homeowners burned their trash curbside. Everybody had a burn barrel. My dad parked too close to one, though the chrome bumper showed no damage, destroyed the paint on the license plate. We still burned trash when I left in the fall of 69,

We have the one man garbage trucks. There’s a big claw that grabs the can, picks it up 15 feet and dumps it. We place our trash cans just off the pavement so we are not impeding the mailman. I agree you don’t want to place it next to your mailbox ‘cause it would pull it out of the ground and take it to the landfill!

Yep same here, that is the reason to space the trash and yard waste containers several feet apart. Recycling pickup is on a different day, our city even provide bulk (furniture, appliances) on alternate weeks.
I have a far amount of frontage, ~8 feet, then driveway, then 2 feet to my mailbox, another two feet to a mature live oak, then maybe 40 feet where I locate my trash bins.

We did and the best part was the neighbor two houses away had three teenage daughters who used lots of aerosol hair spray and the Dad saved up all the cans for several “burns” and then he world tell his son Ricky when the big day was all us kids went over to Ricky’s house for the “display” as the cans all exploded shooting way up into the air
Now, those were the “Good Old Days
”

Much more fun than putting a burning bag of you know what on someone’s steps
