I have a 2006 Dodge Caravan, 37,000 miles. It shifts hard with a clunking sound from 1st to 2nd and from 3rd to 4th. It does this about half the time. The dealer says the computer shows nothing wrong, but I know there is. What do I do?
First, is the powertrain still under warranty? If so, then the must be fixed by the dealer for free since you reported the problem during the warranty period. If the vehicle is out of the warranty period then I’d suggest checking and changing the transmission fluid, using only the transmission fluid specified in the owner’s manual. Also, it may be time to change the fluid anyway. Check the manual’s severe duty schedule, and see when a change is recommended. I would bet that a fluid change would resolve the problem.
