Welcome to the forum…

The OP was a one and done poster, and has not been back since posting 4 years ago…

It is best to start from scratch and give us all the details related, as well as the year, make, model, engine and miles for best help…

Try shifting to neutral and reapplying the brakes when going from reverse to drive.

Is everything original, the same as your vehicle came equipped from the factory? Nobody has monkeyed with the differential function, etc.

yes everything is original

2017 dodge grand caravan sxt 117000 miles

OK, thanks for the reply and info…

Does it feel like you have a delayed engagement forward and reverse??
Does it only due this once after for long periods, work, overnight??
Or does it happen every time you shift into a gear??

Are you getting any 6-5 coast downshift clunk and 3-2 coast downshift clunk??

Please give as much info as possible, as the OP was vague…

Your 62TE transmission does have a typical Chrysler torque converter drain back issue that can be corrected but it is an internal issue…

it happens everytime i shift from reverse to drive. it takes a fraction of a moment before it thumps first thought was the engine mounts thats what it feels like both the front and rear mount were changed. the dealership said its normal and compared it to another caravan that the thump is actually worse. im looking for possibilities so it doesnt get worse its hard to catch it on video because the phone doesnt seem to pick it up as loud as it sounds to the ears…

Posting audio isn’t usually of much help on the internet. Audio is helpful when standing next to the car, not so much via the internet & computer speakers. However, if you can figure out how to do it, suggest to post a vdo of the engine compartment (at warm idle) , that shows how much the engine is rocking when you shift from D to R and back, brakes fully applied. The experts here may be able to spot the problem from that. It’s possible for example that even though you have new engine/trans mounts, the engine/trans unit isn’t sitting exactly where it should be in relationship to the mounts. It may just need to be jostled into place ( after temporarily loosening the mounts). I think you have to create a utube vdo in order to post it here. There are many possible causes for this symptom, but a remaining engine mount problem shouldn’t be ignored. . Best of luck.

Stay with me here, are you coming to a 100% complete stop befor moving from R to D??
Are you touching the gas pedal, like being a left foot braker and resting your foot on the gas pedal??..

Common complaints with this transmission are overheating, torque converter drain-back, delayed forward or reverse cold or hot, 6-5 coast downshift clunk and 3-2 coast downshift clunk… I am trying to figure out if it is a delayed clunk or something else…

Does the van vibrate under heavy acceleration only by chance??

It could be a combo of worn inner cv axle joints and worn spider gear with a little bit to much ring and pinion gear lash, all worn from mileage and lack of proper maintenance of the transmission…

The valve body with wear could be causing the clunk, but not sure yet…

Sad part is if I could drive it and do some test on it I could probably tell you what was wrong right away… As with most any mechanic competent in drive lines…

My advise to you is to pay a transmission shop that still builds them and can test the vehicle to confirm or deny a trans issue or not… Some dealers have gone away with trans builders, as with trans shops and only remove and replace the transmissions with remans or new units, so they may not be the best to find your issue…

If you were in Nashville I would point you in the direction of one of the best builders in the country he even builds the 10 speed autos…

From park to reverse… to drive… it doesnt have to move at all complete stop yes … since we have a dodge keene lifetime warranty im gonna let the problem get worse i suppose since they say there is nothing to fix right now and this is normal… thank you all!

Let us know what they end up doing tomorrow, next month, next year or whenever please…

Good luck…
