Dodge Ram 1500 Tansmission

We were hauling a small bobcat and trailer and the transmission started whinning and slipping out of gear. My friend hauls the same trailer with a Chevy 1500 just fine so I did not think it would be a problem. The truck does not motion forward in gear without gas and will roll backward while in drive when on an incline. I am not sure how much damage I have done or how much a new tranny will cost. It is 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 liter V8 Hemi. It slips in and out of gear initially but wants you get going it seems fine at higher speeds. The check engine light did come on. I don’t know if it jsut over heated or if I have damaged the lower gears beyond repair. Any input helps.

Scan the computer and see what it has to say before we go anywhere else. Post back with the code/s
