My 1996 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V6 will start first thing every morning without issue. If I go out and start it every hour, or after an extended period of time, it will start. However, after being shut off for a few hours it will not start. When this happens, the ignition spark tests good and introducing starter fluid into the carburetor does not help.
I have replaced the crank position sensor (twice), ignition coil, all plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Probably flooding due to leaking injector(s). After cranking and when it doesn’t start, remove spark plugs and see if they are wet. Better yet, hook a fuel pressure gage. Turn key to run and off 3 times. If pressure falls fairly quickly you have a pressure leak. Then pressurize the fuel rail again and quickly pinch the fuel hose with plastic hose vise. If pressure drop still persists you probably have leaking injector(s).
