Dodge Caravan air conditioning

After 5 recalls on my 2008 Dodge Caravan (3 of which mentioned air conditioning), the air conditioning went out completely. All the estimates to fix it fall in the $800+ range to replace the rear evaporator. After telling one service manager that I’ll just drive with the windows down, he informed me that I would be damaging the van and could cause other problems by not getting it fixed. Is he on the level or do they just want me to pour more money into the van?

I’m not sure why he thinks that things would be damaged. The AC system is used to help the defroster system pull moisture out of the air. I assume the front system is working ok. Ask him what he thinks can happen if things aren’t fixed.

Probably the compressor going bad because of none-use and not being lubricated.
