Do you REALLY care about cup holders?

The theaters aren’t really that dark once the movie starts. There’s plenty of light from the screen.

My 59 Pontiac had rear heating and it was the best heater I ever had. One New Years Eve it was about 10 below out and we went to a movie with another couple. After the movie, I wasn’t 3 blocks away and there was good heat coming out of the rear vent, or so I was told.

As far as eating int he dark, yeah I’m cured. I used to like to eat Hershey bars and peanuts in the car in the dark on my commute home. Then I got a look at a Hershey bar in the light and it was filled with worms still wiggling around. So now if I’m going to eat something in the dark, I inspect it first in the light. Like I said I’m a little paranoid and therefore don’t have a weight problem.

@bing. My 1947 Pontiac, my 1955 Pontiac, and my 1954 Buick had heater coils under the seat and under the dash. Those heating systems were great. My later vehicles didn’t have the underseat heaters and the rear seat was not comfortable in really cold weather.
Worse than these later cars were the school buses I rode. All the heat was in the front.

Another good idea all shot to heck by someone that already thought of it.

My lawn tractor has two. My ATV has a pair of them and even has stretchy rubber hold downs to keep them in place while wheeling. Heck, the kid’s old wagon even has two cupholders built in!

Yeah, my zero turn mower has one. Pretty useless though. You take one hand off the handle to pick up your drink and you’re spinning in a circle. I tried to have a beer while mowing. Ain’t happening unless you stop the mower :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

“Heck, the kid’s old wagon even has two cupholders built in!” @TwinTurbo How times have changed. The wagon I had as a kid had an ashtray. I think the top of the line Radio Flyer had two ashtrays.

Bing, which 59 trim level did you have? My 59 was a Catalina two door hard top, just front heater. Great car, you could get six bodies in the trunk.

The only necessary cup holder I ever had was a homemade one on my Harley dresser. More of a beer can holder actually.

I had the 4 door Catalina hard top. Whatever they called the roof, it was the one with the flat roof and not the sloped back rear window. I discovered the windshield was not the same on the two roofs. Canyon Copper, with a white roof. The thing with the heat though was the guy before me took all the controls out for some reason so it was full time full heat summer or winter. In the summer, I just blocked off the heater hoses, and replaced them in the winter. Oh to be young again.

Jeezoo… and here I thought that shelf that pulls out of the dash with the two holes in it (Subaru Style) were Tinfoil Hat holders ! The points of my TFH’s fit perfectly into those rings…and since I obviously carry 2 Tinfoil hats at all times, I was further bamboozled.

Boy Howdy, I would never have guessed I was supposed to put a drink inside those things!! I strive to learn something everyday

From my experience, when I’ve responded to an individual’s post I use the reply button at the bottom of his or her post. That puts my reply both in the replies listed under the original post and also at the bottom.

The most useless reviews are those that read like an edited sales brochure.

The 4 door '59 flattops were the most beautiful bodies GM ever produced, particularly the Olds 98.

Yeah I always wanted an Olds instead but not to be.

I can see the need for cupholders. I see people of all ages carrying water bottles or insulated coffee mugs with them all the time. Our church choir has one 87 year old man who always has his insulated coffee mug with him. He has spilled it at least twice during a service. We should probably have cupholders on the church pews. Most of the college students carry their water bottles with them. I can see the need for cupholders in vehicles for today’s people.
In my day we had ashtrays in vehicles and some smokers carried ash trays with them when they weren’t in their vehicles. I remember reading a Consumer Reports 1952 issues where the bottom line Ford Mainline was compared with the bottom line Chevrolet Standard. One advantage CR pointed out was that the Ford had an ashtray and the Chevrolet did not. Of course, most customers bought the Ford Customline or the Chevrolet Deluxe. These upper trim lines had ashtrays and cigarette lighters. I even remember cars that had cigarette lighters for rear seat passengers.
I wish that there had been cupholders in the late 1960s cars when I decided to quit smoking. I had a flask with a strap that went around my neck. Instead of a puff, I would take a swig. It would have been much more convenient to have my flask in a cupholder than strapped around my neck.

Back in the 60’s I remember going to movies in downtown Minneapolis. I think it was the Orpheum. At any rate they not only had cup holders in the seats but ash trays. I don’t know if I ever used them or not but they were there for your pleasure while watching the movie for $1.50 or so. No ash trays now but electric seats with foot stools and cup holders. All they really need to add is personal head phones that you can turn the volume up on.
