i want to replace my tranny fluid but dexron iii is not found in the auto stores.

can dexron iv or vi be used?



i have a 2002 mazda protege es model. auto matic.

Dexron VI is backwards compatible to Dexron III. You can also find several brands of Dexron III/Mercon universal transmission fluid. I use it with good success in my Dex III applications. My last use was O’Reilly Automotive branded fluid.

I believe Dex VI is a full synthetic but I can’t believe Dex III is not available everywhere.

Dex III is very common, look again.

You won’t find a Dex III anymore - only Dex VI or the Dex/Merc multipurpose. Use the Dex VI if your original spec was Dex III.

I had the tranny fluid replaced with Dexron III last week in my GMC truck
