It’s happened to many of us - we buy a new car, love driving it, then within weeks the dreaded dashboard rattle starts. Mine is in an otherwise delightful 2008 VW Rabbit S, sounds like it’s coming from the center console, and occurs only when driving over patched asphalt pavement and Botts dots. I can take speed bumbs, railroad tracks - no rattle. But for some reason those little bumps do it. My past experience has been that dealers don’t seem to want to do much about it because it’s so time-consuming to trace these things - even though the car is under warranty and they should get reimbursed for the work. So any advice? How does one diagnose a dashboard rattle?
I had a very annoying rattle once…The only way to find it was to get under the dash while my wife drove the car…So hear I am laying on my back with my had under the dash and my feet up over the seat going over all the bumps my wife could find. My son (10yr old at the time) thought it was the funniest thing he ever saw…But I found it…And three trips to a chiropractor my neck was back in place.
