I have a 2003 Cadillac CTS with 90,000 miles and it is leaking oil around the valve covers. The dealer wants over $800 to replace. Is this something I can do myself? I am fairly mechanical and I think I have the neccesary tools.
Before you change the gaskets, you should try tightening down the fasteners A LITTLE…80% of the time, that will cure a minor oil leak…
Is this a V6 or V8 powered car?
The engine is the 3.2 liter V6. I will try tightening the valve covers to see if that helps.
Make sure you torque the bolts as specified in a manual at the library. That is not only foot pounds but order, and repeating the order a little at a time. Warping can occur otherwise and then you could be looking at replacement of warped valve covers.
It’s not that complicated…They just need to be carefully snugged up. Start at the center and work your way out…
