Confused about ignition switch position when connecting replacement battery

I’ve always turned it “off” but reading on some VAG cars the recommendation is “on”. Purportedly to minimize surge currents. I have heard here to not attempt to reset the car’s computers by disconnecting the battery . Related?

How else can he achieve the “top poster” title, along with all of the fame that will result from that achievement? :wink:

On most of the vehicles that you use a battery/memory saver on, they require the ignition switch to be in acc or on position in order for the saver to work… You just need to disconnect the neg terminal 1st and re-connect the neg terminal last…
