not getting power to the coil

Oh, and how do you KNOW you’re not getting power to the coil?

Run a fused wire, straight from the battery, to the ignition coil. Better?

Can’t do that. You must step the voltage down to the coil once the engine starts. Otherwise it’ll burn up the secondary ignition components. That’s why there must be a ballast resistor/wire to the coil, or an ignition module to step the voltage down to the coil once the engine starts.
