Code 5E43 (Steering Angle Sensor not present)

e46 BMW The problem appears to be intermittent. After I calibrated the sensor and cleared the codes, it ran three trips, over 100 miles, before the Brake and DSC warning lights came back. Same code 5E43. When I monitor live data, it reports degrees of turn smoothly from left to right with no glitches.

Has anyone had an intermittent connection to the steering angle sensor that turned out to be outside the sensor? I am really not looking forward to replacing that sensor.

Usual the sensor itself, the wiring doesn’t get moved at the column easily so unless someone’s been in there lately it should be good, ( I’ve seen issues where the DSC harness has been moved for other work causing faults for various parts)
The sensor isn’t a bad job on those just disconnect the lower steering joint inside the footwell and it just slides off the column.
